More on financial translation classes

Perhaps you have read my entry in which I described the boring classes we had last semester. It was Financial translation, and the teacher seemed unable to convey the knowledge in an interesting way. But I must tell you something very interesting. At the end of that semester we were supposed to hand in a translated passage as homework. Because I had skipped several lessons, much more that I should have, I was given more homework than the rest of the group. The problem was, my homework was also a bit more difficult, and I had not learned much during the semester, so I had some problems getting started. Nobody had taken real notes during the classes so I could not ask my friends for help either. There was only one way out: I had to look for some sources by myself. And somehow I was able to motivate myself and gain some basic knowledge on financial translation. The funny thing was, I found it easily on the net, on encyclopedia pages available to anyone, and the information was much more layperson-friendly, so to say, than our teacher"s classes. I also found suitable glossaries on websites for translators and was able to write my paper. Believe it or not, but out teacher was really impressed with what I had done!
